Midland Region NBA Farm Walk & Open Day

Location: Manor Farm, Fritwell Bicester, Oxon OX27 2QT.
The Midland Region of the National Beef Association have very kindly invited any Longhorn members interested to their open day on 3rd May. This event, by kind permission of Mr. Peter Surman and family, should prove an interesting day for all.  Mr Surman has suckler cows, running with an Angus bull. He buys in and finishes about 2000 animals a year, mainly for the Dovecote Park scheme and they are fed on grass, maize and by-products.

The farm is situated approx 2 miles off Junction 10 of the M40; signs will be placed to direct you from the Motorway.

If any member is interested and would like to attend and especially to help with catering arrangements, it would be appreciated if you would fill in the cut off slip at the bottom of the invitation which can be downloaded by clicking here and return it to:
Cynthia Hall, Stevens Farm, Granborough Road, North Marston, Buckingham MK18 3PP or call 01296670235 email: cynthiahall@btinternet.com

Show Training Day

Location: Southfield Farm, Fieldhead Lane, Drighlington, Bradford, BD11 1JL.
Following the success of the Show Training day last year, a second similar event has been arranged to encourage new exhibitors to start showing their cattle. This year's event is to be held at the home of the Southfield Herd thanks to the kind invitation of David and Angela Blockley.

Once again this is intended as a basic "starter" day although there will no doubt be something of interest to the more experienced exhibitor. The whole showing process will be covered from early planning through training, washing and grooming to ringcraft and etiquette.

Pre-booking is essential to facilitate planning and it may be necessary to restrict numbers, so please book early and before the deadline of Saturday 21st April. Bookings and enquiries to the Secretary, Sarah Slade: 01769 581212 or email: secretary@longhorncattlesociety.com

Mr. Jim Courts has been invited to lead the day. He is a very experienced cattle exhibitor who will bring his knowledge and expertise of the professional showing world to the day.

Angela and David Blockley will also be on hand to assist with the demonstrations and answer questions.

Angela and David have very kindly offered to provide refreshments.

Biosecurity - As the day will be a practical one using the Blockley's cattle it is essential that visitors wear clean clothes and bring clean Wellingtons.

10.45 am for 11.00 am start. Leave the M62 motorway at Junction 27, Southfield Farm is a short drive from there. More details will be provided to those booked to attend.
