The Society has four National Trust properties as members, the most recent addition being National Trust West Exmoor. They own Kipscombe Farm and have recently introduced Longhorn cattle to the farm. Farm Manager Josie Field explains more….
“Longhorns were an easy choice for us, the National Trust West Exmoor, when deciding which breed of cattle to have at our farm in Countisbury, North Devon. Here at Kipscombe Farm, we aim to develop a productive farming system, which supports our goal of improving the ecological and wildlife value of the area. We needed a hardy breed that could be out wintered, even in our challenging climate, that would be easy to calve and handle, and produce superior meat quality. For all these reasons, it seemed that Longhorns would be ideal. They are also amazingly charismatic animals, which the public love to see; this helps us to open conversations about the breed, our conservation work, and our farming”
