LONGHORNS PEAK AT 2,000GNS TWICE
The Longhorn Cattle Society's Spring Show and Sale at Worcester enjoyed continuing success again this year with a total clearance and a top price of 2,000gns on two occasions.
Three Bridges Galileo - Show Champion
The Champion on the day Three Bridges Galileo, a two year old son of Blackbrook Masquerade from R.J. Sheppy & Son sold to the joint top price of 2,000gns to J. Newby, Montfort Bridge, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Judging of one of the heifer classes
Females were all very strongly supported with the Reserve Champion, an unserved heifer "Wilford Georgina" from Leicestershire breeder John Warner hitting the 2,000gn mark to P.V. & J.M. Robinson, Holmes Chapel, Crewe, Cheshire.
David and Angela Blockley's long trip from Yorkshire was well worthwhile with the top of their consignment making 1,850gns for a second prize In Calf Heifer "Southfield Genie" to established breeders Bell Farming, South Clifton, Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Cows and Calves were well supported with Eric Wood's "Bollin French" with a heifer calf at foot levelling at 1200gns to PV & JM Robinson, Holmes Chapel, Cheshire.
Buyers were present from all points across the country, underlining the growing importance of Worcester as a central and accessible sales centre.
Averages were as follows:
10 Cows with calves or in calf av: £981.75
2 Served Heifers av: £1,548.75
16 Unserved Heifers av: £883.96
2 Bulls av: £1,601.25
