“LONGHORN BULL SELLS TO SCOTLAND FOR 2300gns AT TAUNTON”
 
Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt were delighted to welcome the 2nd Mid West Longhorn Breeders Production Sale to Taunton Livestock Centre on Saturday 8th December.
 
Two months later than planned Longhorn Breeders generated a great deal of interest resulting in a top price of 2300gns for Sid Hollier’s much admired two year old prize winning bull “Long Ash Fruit”. By “Long Ash Captain” and out of a Culcombe dam he was purchased over the telephone by Robert Gunn of Caithness.
 
In calf heifers sold to 1100gns for Ian & Lyn Kett’s “Quantock Ffion” by “Fishwick Ulysses” she is due to calve in April to “Bemborough Crown”. Two year old in calf heifers from David & Pat Lawrence’s Tripps herd sold to 880gns for “Tripps Finch”.
 
Maiden heifers sold to 680gns for Sid Hollier’s “Long Ash Gingham” by “Riffhams Alfred”. The only cow and calf to be sold was from Church Farm Business Park being “Bejon Belle” with her 4th calf at foot. She sold for 880gns to Mrs Ridewood of Exeter and her 3rd calf “Ashton Gail” that was born in August 2006 sold for 620gns.
 
Heifer calves born in May 2007 sold to 390gns three times for N.R.Glover’s “Warns Hilary, Heather & Hazel” all by “Holcombe Dazzle” bred by Mr Ian Clark. Six April 2007 steer calves met a strong trade for the second year selling to 300gns a piece.
 
A day that confirmed the increasing interest in the Longhorn breed in the West created the following averages:-
