In the late 1980s, the Partnership took on areas of old pasture and meadow, including wildflower-rich grassland at Macclesfield Riverside Park. Grazing, with a traditional breed of cattle, both promotes a rare breed and benefits wildflowers. Hardy, docile Longhorn cattle were chosen. The herd has flourished over the years and has provided an educational focus, a mascot for the valley and has maintained the conservation value of the grassland
