DEFRA seeks views from cattle keepers

03/10/2023

DEFRA has launched a public consultation into proposed changes to identification, registration and movement reporting of bovines in England. The proposals have been developed with input from industry representatives, but Defra feel it is vital that they understand all points of view.
Their ambition is to enable the cattle traceability system in England to be modernised, which will improve the ability to stem the spread of disease during an outbreak, reduce administrative work for keepers and simplify the law. Defra also propose a new system of enforcement, which is fairer and more proportionate.
All cattle keepers are urged to respond to the consultation and put forward their views.  To respond, you will need to understand the current tagging regulations.
