And the results are in!

There has been excellent response to the first online show we've held.

The show 'opened' at 8am on 5 September, so have a look at the Cloud Lines Shows website for the results.

The Society's grateful thanks go to Clive and Tom Davies for judging the cattle classes, and to Ruby Wright for judging the Young Handlers.

Clive Davies is on the Society's judging panel and along with his son Tom runs the Westwood herd of Herefords. Clive was one of our technical speakers at last year's AGM and he is judging the Northern Longhorn Breeders' herd competition this year.

Ruby has been showing cattle from a young age. She won numerous young handler championships she has shown for many people including Padfield and Barwood. She started her own herd of Angus at around the age of 13 and she now lives in Yorkshire running a tenant farm with her boyfriend Tom Hill, currently running 1000 ewes and 60 pedigree Simmental cows.

Clive and Tom commented…'Every show salutes its Champions and no exceptions here. Both winning females are great ambassadors for the Breed, the Champion every bit the winner and her future will be followed with interest. The Runner-up is a practical and working breeder that will impress many.

Impressive too is the whole concept of the Virtual Show at this time. Many congratulations to Cloud-Lines-Shows for their innovation. To those that designed, administered and facilitated the event, your achievement was great. The exhibitors and their teams of helpers, including of course the operators of the cameras, have performed sterling work. In this setting, the eye appeal of the photographic images are critical but stills photography does not always give an accurate picture! The inclusion of videos of the right length are essential. From a livestock technical point of view, the comparisons of growth and scale cannot be accurately assessed when compared with the live showring situation, but perhaps this is good? It is surely much better to concentrate on the importance of traits like construction, conformation and Breed characteristics? All of this work and method of promotion will surely be very important going forwards. This event has been a learning curve and more positive developments can be considered going forwards.

We have very much enjoyed our involvement with your Virtual Show. Many thanks for the invitation. We wish the Longhorn Breed good fortune in the times ahead. Clearly the Breed is in safe hands!
