Yesterday the Society received the sad news that Peter Boylett had passed away having been in hospital for a couple of weeks. He had been in poor health for a while.
The funeral is at Staindrop Church, Staindrop, Darlington, Co Durham on Wednesday 10 October at 12.00 noon. All welcome.
At the 2012 AGM Peter was the recipient of the Presidents' Award and the citation from the then President John Backhouse is replicated below.
When Peter became manager at Raby Estates they only had an old cow and a bull, Rousham Bunter, who was used for cross breeding. With the encouragement of Lord Barnard Peter set to and built up what I consider to be the best herd in the country. This played a bit part in promoting the Longhorns up North as it could be seen all year round in the Park from the main road. When stock was shown from this herd they were shown straight from grass. As Manager there was no financial gain whatsoever for Peter but his dedication was unsurpassed
