Northern Longhorn Breeders Club Spring Get Together
22 April 2007
The Croft, Houghton, Carlisle CA3 0LD.
The Northern Group's Spring Get Together and visit to the Houghton Herd will take place on Sunday 22nd April by kind invitation of Susan Aglionby.
Meet at The Croft at 10:30am.
Susan runs a small organic farm with Longhorns, sheep, geese and chickens. The cattle are outwintered and the meat is either sold privately or through the local co-operative, Hadrian Organics.
The breeding stock is at The Croft, just off J44 on the M6. Guests will be able to view the cattle during the morning and Susan will explain how the organic system works for her and explain how her latest acquisition of 18 acres of arable land will go into conversion to produce her own feed for the livestock. There will be photos of the most recent steer to be butchered, both on the hoof and on the hook together with killing out figures. There will also be an opportunity to purchase the end product!
Lunch will be very kindly provided by Susan at a nominal £10 per head after which it is planned to visit the store cattle at Wallace Field at nearby Armathwaite.
All Society members and guests are most welcome to this event, numbers please by latest Tuesday 17th April to Group Secretary Pam Pumphrey phone: 01556 630246 email: clonyard@btinternet.com
